New Challenge

Hello Divas,
Yes, it's been almost a week since I've last posted. I'm very sorry. I've had an extremely busy past few days. The Boston Marathon was yesterday! I'm very excited that I will be done with school in about 2 weeks, because then I'll definitely be able to do daily posting with more ease.
AGH! Once again, I've been entranced by the Diet Devil, and I've messed up! I'd finally went down to 156.8 lbs from 160 lbs, but after the garbage this weekend, I'm back to square one!
Fear not, I have a new challenge to do the trick! AND, I definitely want you all to join me! Tomorrow morning, we will weigh in to find out our starting/current weights. Then one week from tomorrow, we'll weigh ourselves again. Feel free to post your weigh-in stats to keep track.
Okay everyone, be on your best dieting behavior starting tomorrow! We can all shed at least 2-3 pounds!

Love,
Diet Diva XOXO

I'm being honest with YOU, and myself!

So here's a little update on my personal situation lately:

After the past few weeks of trying to get my life in order, I've noticed some things that must be changed today! I've gained a solid twelve pounds in the past month, and thirty six pounds since October. I haven't posted in a few days because I just went away for Easter weekend. Even though I was still gaining weight, I had made major changes but they were all derailed by unfortunate circumstances.

In the past, I felt that "oh so rocky bottom" and would immediately do everything that I could to lose the weight-and fast! I've been waiting to really feel the "Oh gosh, no! I can't eat another extra thing until I see that number on the scale change!!" Well, I felt that rock bottom today! Upon looking in the bathroom mirror of my dorm this morning, I saw my size in comparison to a girl on my floor. This girl is a completely average weight person;not skinny or anything, just normal. I had been a lot smaller and tighter looking than this person at the beginning of the school year. Now, I'm completely larger than her!

I can't bare the feeling of knowing that my gorgeous clothes are just hanging in my closet without an owner! Beyond that, I have nothing to wear right now, i feel awful, and every thing's getting harder to do. I know that losing this stubborn weight isn't going to be easy, so I don't want to keep packing on more pounds!

When I got back from vacation two days ago, I started at the gym again. I went again yesterday also. Even though I went to the gym, I still ate far too much during the day and a lot at night, completely negating all my hard work at the gym. I think that since this blog has started last week, I've gained about four pounds!

And I know the best way to stop the weight gain and stress dilemmas!

First, List the problems:

1. Not sleeping even close to enough/going to bed too late. Also, not staying in bed and getting up in the middle of the night and bingeing on hundreds of calories!

2. Not eating enough during the day. Not eating three meals and small snacks, but just eating small portions and picking all day long!

3. No regime or schedule to my life!

4. Not getting up early every day!

5. Not weighing myself everyday-or at all lately!

6. Not drinking enough water!

7. Not eating at least 35 grams of fiber every day.

8. Not getting enough iron (I was formerly anemic).

9. Not keeping a food diary.

10. Not going to the gym, every day!

Second, think of resolutions to each of these problems:

So, here I am and all of my worries and problems are fixable. I CAN'T COMPLAIN or get stressed out now!

Here's what I'm going to do to fix them all:

1. Keep a food diary

2. Be in bed by 11:30 PM every night.

3. Even if I wake up, stay in bed all night!

4. Go on the computer less, in order to ditch the insomnia!

5. Get up by at most 7:30 am, every day!

6. No eating after 10 PM!

7. After dinner, only fruit and veggies, possibly yogurt (dairy helps you fall asleep!) or a 100 calorie pack of oatmeal if I've eaten a light dinner!

8. Take my vitamins and emergen-c for energy and strength!

9. Eat meals-no crazy diets or starvation (this will ward off late night munchies!)

10. Go to the gym everyday- NO excuses!

11. Cut out all simple carbohydrates-completely! They're not necessary for anything!

12. Get into a regime. Get things done during the day, and stop wasting time and relaxing so much!

Finally, begin to work on making the plans/schedules!

I'll keep you up to date on this! I believe in my will-power! I've done it before, and I can do it again!

If I make all of these changes my life will be perfect, stress-free, and the weight will fall off! School, dieting, exercise, and life will be rewarding, and a whole hell of a lot easier!

You Can't Rush Weight Loss!

In this day and age, being humans and all, we are used to instant gratification. We are run on stimulation and getting what we want. For many of us, weight loss is something we try to rush via a magic pill, surgery, or fad diet. The point I'm trying to make is, we can't rush weight loss! Generally, dropping the weight really fast means that's about how fast you'll gain it back. From personal experience, I know this to be true.
The secret to dieting success is patience and hard work. We need to re-teach ourselves how to eat and be active. Being unrealistic or jumping the gun will set you up for failure, especially in the long run. Anymore when you start to get cynical or you start to say "ugh, this isn't working," just distract yourself or go for a walk and listen to your ipod.
Diet Diva is right there with you. This is the hardest thing for me. In retrospect, I see that I've derailed my diet by simply obsessing over it too much! I challenge you to follow me in not thinking about your weight! If you eat right and stick to a solid exercise plan, you'll lose weight. Dedicate your thoughts to academics, your family, your friends, or simply to your hobby (cough, cough-blogging*).

Here's what I plan to do to keep my mind off of self-deprecation & my hands off of the carbs(!!!):

1. Wear a retainer for your teeth (if you have one)!
2. Put some Crest White Strips on your teeth!
3. Drink something!
4. Listen to your i-pod or music.
5. Chew gum.
6. Read a book or a health magazine.
7. Go for a walk.
8. Take a shower or better yet a hot bath!
9. Go for a swim!
10. Write a letter to a friend or loved one like your mother!
11. Meet up with other people. (The best way to distract yourself from yourself!)
12. Take a nap!
13. Write a bucket list and start to check stuff off.
14. Join a club, team, group, or join an organization!
15. Give yourself that other kind of treat like painting your nails or finally getting around to that facial!
16. Write through your feelings on a blog or in a journal! Sometimes hand writing will allow you to see how bananas your actually driving yourself!

Before & Afters!

Wow! This flickr account may have some negative connotations, such as the controversy surrounding its URL! I have to say some of the pictures, I disapprove of as motivation! But, I feel that these shots do show you that you really can change your body around!
Everyone be healthy! Love your body! It's your temple! Long & healthy lives is our goal!

Heres the link:

What do YOU think of these pictures?

Good Morning!

Agh, yes! A beautiful morning it is! In order to be strong and confident, our mental health comes first! I want you to tell yourself that you are going to have a good day today! If we think that we are going to, then we just might. My main point is that we are our own best friend and best motivator. Having a good relationship with ourselves and our bodies is the most special thing there is! Look down at the area that is bothering you (and with optimism!) say thank you thighs, you carry me to class every day and allow me to get my education! Or thank you hips, without you, I would not have been able to have my beautiful children!
You see, life is great and it's needs to begin today! No more of the negative, when I'm thinner my life will begin! Today is a great day, and don't waste it. Life is short and fleeting!
Be your best mantra!

Here's some tips to healthy dieting. These babies MUST be followed to be successful:

1. (The most important!)-Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night!
"Earlier to bed, early to rise. That makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise!" (*Compliments of my wonderful mother!)
2. Drink as much water as you can!
When dieting try to aim for your body weight in ounces! 155.8 for me! (haha)
3. Eat breakfast.
For instance, I feel uneasy in the morning and don't like to. Because I'm just getting into this, I ate a nice clean light breakfast! 1/2 an orange, 1/2 an apple, and a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal with cinnamon. Mmm!
4. Exercise!
If you feel like you are not in-shape enough or that it may pain you, then go for a twenty minute walk. Keep upping the amount! Go twice a day! You need endorphins! They are your bodies natural drug!
5. Keep a food diary!
Make sure that you see the bad patterns, so you can fix them. Eat a bigger dinner or have a glass of milk or late night salad, if you are staying up late to do work in order to nix late night snacking and bingeing!
6. Plan Ahead!
Try to plan out what you are going to eat. Aim for 5 to 6 small meals a day or 3 meals and 2 snacks. Stick to healthy foods and make sure you are getting a range of carbs, fats, and protein. If you are a vegetarian, like me, then you must make sure you are following a vegetarian food pyramid. Planning is a sure-fire way to not mess up. If you are going out to eat look up the calories, fat, and carbs online or call ahead and ask what's healthy on the menu or what can be adjusted for you.
7. Supplements!
When we diet, we may be falling short of some of our must-have nutrients. In order to
make sure that we are getting everything we need take a multi vitamin. If you are a woman take
a calcium supplement. It's important to fight osteoporosis and other diseases that hit women!
